Blog Tour: Planted by @TompkinsFalls with my #review

Cozy Mystery
Date Published: June 2016
Publisher: Asdee Press

It’s Monday of spring break when Professor Lyssa Pennington’s backyard garden project unearths a loaded revolver. With no record of violence at their address and no related cold case, the Tompkins Falls police have no interest. But the Penningtons and a friend with the State Police believe there’s a body somewhere. Whose? Where? And who pulled the trigger?

Review

You will definitely want to have plenty of allotted reading time before starting this one. It was hard to put down. I was so engrossed in the story that I put off many of my important things to do. C.T. Collier does a great job of creating a Mystery that keeps the reader invested and guessing.

Lyssa is a wonderful lead, she is fun to read about and easy to get behind as a lead character.

Lots of twists and turns and a wonderfully woven mystery.

C. T. Collier was born to solve logic puzzles, wear tweed, and drink Earl Grey tea. Her professional experience in cutthroat high tech and backstabbing higher education gave her endless opportunity to study intrigue. Add to that her longtime love of mysteries, and it’s no wonder she writes academic mysteries that draw inspiration from traditional whodunits. Her setting: entirely fictional, Tompkins College is no college and every college, and Tompkins Falls, is a blend of several Finger Lakes towns, including her hometown, Seneca Falls, NY (AKA Bedford Falls from It’s a Wonderful Life).

PROMO Blitz: Fallen Star Series from @candyjstarr #excerpt and #giveaway

New Adult
Date Published: February 7,  2017

Working for a cranky, old hermit in an isolated house sounds like Ruby’s idea of heaven – but her boss isn't quite what she expects.

Tex is a fugitive from the rock and roll world – a tragedy abruptly halted his career. No one knows why he quit, no one knows where he is.

The two of them live in the same house, avoiding each other, until Tex screws up, endangering their lives and forcing them to move into close quarters. Suddenly, the idea of human contact seems more appealing, if only with each other. The sanctuary they have built is enough for Ruby -- the man she grows to love is Tex the hermit, not Tex the rock star -- but the outside world encroaches.

She thinks their fledgling love can’t shine brighter than the rock dream but can Ruby bear to let Tex go?

EXCERPT

I was curious to know what he was like on stage. Could the brooding man that had been thrown into my life actually capture a crowd? It sounded like that festival he’d been asked to headline was a huge deal. He wouldn’t be offered something like that without a reason.
The signal on the beach was a bit dodgy and I had to wait for an age for the video to load. I’d found a clip of him performing, not just a video clip with him lip syncing to a backing track. Finally, I had enough cached to play the thing without it jumping around like a mad woman.
It wasn’t like I had the experience to know what made a band good or not, so I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. That man who walked on stage at the beginning of the song was just a pimped-up version of the Tex I knew. He walked proud instead of slouching but he had the same sardonic smile.
As the lyrics belted out to be carried away by the wind, the man on stage took control of the thousands of people watching him. What he did wasn’t natural. It was some kind of witchery or voodoo. He became someone else. A powerhouse of thrusts and growls. Every move he made was larger than life.
Feelings welled up in me while I watched him. Strange, unfamiliar feelings. Sensations powered through my body, heating me up despite the winter chill. My skin flushed and tingled. As soon as the song finished, I replayed it, needing to hear it again. Needing to see him again.
I imagined what it would be like to have that man on stage sweep me up in his arms, pressing his lips against mine, stripping me naked.
Oh. My. God. I wanted to have sex with that man. But that man was Tex.
No.
Not possible.

About the Author

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

Review

This is beyond just a Romance, it had real HEART. Anne Marie Citro has brought to life very multi-dimensional characters and given them a purpose.

The world she has created is so vivid and really helps the reader feel like they are there with the characters.

A strong and fast paced plot will keep you invested the entire way through.

This story managed to surprise me several times as well. I liked how balanced the characters were, I felt like each one served their own purpose and had a valid place in the novel.

Anne Marie Citro grew born and raised in the greater Toronto area of Ontario, Canada. She grew up in a large, loving family. Anne Marie is married to a very patient man. He is the love of her life. They have four very cool sons, and the girls they brought into their family that have become daughters of her heart. She has been blessed enough to finally have a beautiful granddaughter after four sons. She has her own personal gaggle of girlfriends, who enrich her life on a daily basis and make her laugh. Caesar Friday is her favourite day of the week. Caesars with the girls and date night with her hubby. She works with special-needs teenagers, that have taught her how to appreciate life and see it through gentler eyes. Anne Marie was encouraged by her husband to follow her life long dream to write. She loves the characters that take over imagination and haunts her dreams. She loves the arts and she has tried her hand at painting, wood sculpting, chainsaw carving, wood burning, metal and wire sculptures. Yes, her husband is a very patient man! Anne Marie is an avid reader and enjoys about three books per week. But nothing makes her happier then riding on the back of her husband's Harley and  throwing her arms out and feeling the wind race by. Anne Marie and her husband take a few weeks every year to travel to spectacular destination around the world. Blog Tour + My Review of Fairly Certain by @DeborahAnnDavis #review

 Young Adult Romantic Suspense
Date Published: September 2015
Publisher: D&D Universe, llc

What happens when a Computer Geek challenges a Medieval Outlaw?
PETIR TAKES A ROUGH TUMBLE IN THE CONNECTICUT WOODS, and awakens in the middle of old England. His instinct to freak out is tempered by the arrival of a fair maiden wearing a bow… and arrow. In his college world, fair maiden types don’t ordinarily go for computer geek types, but for some reason he is no longer in his world. Petir is fairly certain he can try whatever he wants without consequence.
WITH THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE ROYALS ESCALATING, MAID RIANNE has joined the outlaws hiding in the woods, outwardly defying the handsome and accomplished knight to whom she is promised. She is fairly certain she is simply flattered by Lord Petir’s uncensored admiration of her skills with the staff and bow, the same unmaidenly pursuits disdained by her knight. But, that does not explain her reaction to Lord Petir’s unguarded gaze.
TO PETIR’S DELIGHT, AND MAID RIANNE’S DISMAY, the outlaws invite him to join their merry band. What better way to get close to her? Throwing caution to the wind, Petir decides he has nothing to lose by pursuing Maid Rianne, until she is captured by the enemy. Now, a geek with no ability to defend himself must find a way to rescue the fair maiden.

Review

The story really grabs the readers attention from the get-go. Deborah Ann Davis does a great job being descriptive and allowing the reader to feel like they are immersed in the world.

I was surprised at how fresh and how many surprises there were in this story. What a wonderful job of keeping the reader invested in the series and its characters!

Characterization is key in any novel and I felt like Petir was a great main character with real problems that the reader can relate to. He was easy to get behind and root for through the novel. He has a lot to overcome from his past and it was nice to have that as an underlying theme of the novel.

A nice clean treat for fans of Young Adult Fiction and Suspense and Romance as well.
